WEST Devon residents are being asked how they think their borough council should spend their money during these tough times.
West Devon Councillors are having to make some difficult decisions on budgets for 2013-14 and would like residents to help by completing a survey on spending priorities.
Each year, the council consults with its residents so that they can have their say about the budget challenges.
The survey called 'Your Budget: Your Choice' asks residents to rank the five council services that are most important to them, and that they would like to see stay at the same level.
Residents are also being asked to rank the five services where they would be most willing to see the council reduce the level of service or increase charges.
Borough council leader, Cllr Philip Sanders, said: 'This is taxpayers' money, so we would like to encourage residents to take part in the survey and let us know their views on where the council's money is spent, particularly when tough decisions will have to be made.
'I would encourage all our residents to complete the quick survey either online or in the latest edition of the West Devon Connect magazine.
'The survey also gives residents an opportunity to suggest other ways the council can reduce costs or increase income, so it's your chance to make a difference and help us meet our budget challenges.'
The predicted budget gap for West Devon Borough Council for 2013/14 is £330,000 although the actual figure will not be known until the Government announces its financial settlement for local authorities later this month.
The council will be spending £7.5 million (net) this year on providing services. For every £1 residents pay in council tax, only 12p goes to West Devon Borough Council. The rest goes to Devon County Council, the police, fire services and local town or parish councils.
