LIBRARY users in Tavistock are to get the chance to have their say over the service provided at the brand new facility in Plymouth Road.

A survey is being undertaken next month, to make sure the provision of services at the library meets the needs of the community.

One aspect of the survey will be concerned with the opening hours.

Moira Andrews, librarian in charge, said: 'The new library has operated the opening hours established at the previous site and recognises that the change of building may have altered the pattern of usage.'

Mrs Andrews said library users will be asked what they think of the opening hours in the survey forms, which will be available throughout October.

She said the present system was 'fairly generous' for the size of the community and fell 'well within' government guidelines.

She suspected therefore that the total hours would probably remain similar, with alterations within that total.

l Ideas to wile away winter evenings are being launched by staff at Tavistock's new library in Plymouth Road this autumn.

Moira Andrews, librarian in charge, said a quantity of jigsaw puzzles were donated to the library before the move to its new premises.

She said now the 'chaos' of the move was over, a jigsaw library was about to be started as part of the services provided to the community.

'The service is free and operates on a trust basis, so as those dark evenings draw in, perhaps people would like to test their skills,' said Moira.

And another idea in the pipeline is a knitting pattern exchange — anybody who would be interested in supporting this venture should contact Moira Andrews at Tavistock Library, on 01822 612218.
