NOT even the wet weather could dampen spirits at the 750th Winkleigh Fair, with events taking place throughout last week.

Throughout the whole week, only the dog show had to be cancelled due to the poor conditions, with a group of hardy volunteers ensuring the events in the marquee could take place, spreading bark chippings on the ground and helping out wherever needed.

Last Friday, year 5 pupils from Winkleigh Primary School put on a performance of '1066 and All That' by Penny Griffiths, and more than 200 people turned out for the Winkleigh talent show, which was won by Cathy Turner.

For her efforts she received a trophy and £100 prize money.

Last year's competition was won by Cathy's sister Libby.

More than 30 stall traders plied their trade at the 750th fair on Saturday, kicking off a day crammed with activities.

Children took part in the fancy dress parade, Jonty Depp provided archery and sword-fighting lessons, and for the competitive there was an obstacle course, and hay bale tossing and tug-of-war contests.

The week of events was rounded off by live music from the Feel Good Factory, playing music late into the night.

The Winkleigh Fair committee expressed thanks to everyone who supported the event, particularly volunteers, Rangemoors and Exeter Brewery, Jamie Stuart, all the local businesses involved, and Nick and Sarah Turner and their family whose unending help and support allowed Winkleigh Fair to go ahead in exceptionally bad conditions.
