DEREK Horn?s 50th birthday bash was so brilliant everybody wanted another party.

The result was a Valentine?s Charity Auction that raised £8,444 divided between the Children?s Hospice South West and Devon Air Ambulance.

?I organised my husband?s fiftieth last October and we all had such a good time we thought we?d have another, but this time to something for charity,? said Angela Horn from Meeth.

Joined by couples Peter and Jill Cobbledick from Meeth and Mark and Marie Stevens from Merton the six approached friends and business contacts asking for items to auction.

?Donations came from Premier League football clubs, Harrods, and many local businesses and individuals. Two tickets for a match at Chelsea were auctioned on Lantern Radio and made £350,? said Angela.

?A lot of the people who came to my husband?s party came to the charity event. We started with the idea in November and decided on the Valentine?s auction. The disco was available and the hall was available so we went ahead.

?It surprised us how much money we raised. The money will help with the new aircraft needed for the air ambulance and with the ongoing cost of providing care for terminally ill children and their families,? said Angela.

The auction was conducted by Andy Lane.

The cheques were presented last Thursday.
