A BERE Alston resident was presented with a special bouquet by the parish council this week, on the occasion of her 102nd birthday.

Queenie Clemo, who lives at West View Care Home, was presented with the flowers by council chairman Phil Archer and his wife Julie. Head cook at West View, Sharon Stagg, also made Queenie a special birthday cake.

Queenie, who is West View's oldest resident, was brought up by her grandparents on a farm at Tuckermarsh following the death of her father when she was just two years old.

She puts her long life and good health down to good genes — and plenty of vegetables.
