OKEHAMPTON Golf Club ladies' section played a qualifying par competition on Wednesday May 10.
The scoring was good with three ladies gaining an immediate reduction in handicap.
Winning with an excellent score of +3 was Doris Jewell. Second on a last 9 countback, was Jenni Hutchinson with +2; third, also with +2, was Gladys Thatcher. All three winners had immediate reductions of two shots.
Friday saw six ladies in the higher bronze division, go to Stover Golf Club, to play in the Devon County Golf Ladies' Association competition, where Lesley Hill won second place — a great result for Lesley and Okehampton Golf Club.
On June 3 Devon County Ladies mark their centenary. This will be celebrated with all Devon Golfing ladies' sections participating in an 8am Shotgun Competition.
All ladies will be dressed in fashions ranging from long skirts and high-neck blouses to the modern day slacks and sports shirts, Okehampton is no exception, and special permission has been granted to the ladies, for this occasion — so don't worry gentlemen, you haven't been time warped! And please don't laugh too much as the ladies attempt to pay golf in long skirts and boaters!
