BRAVE Oliver Hancox from Jacobstowe continued to raise money for charity with a stand at the show, alongside his trusty boat.

The 15 year old raised £9,000 for Cancer Research UK when he sailed single-handedly across the English Channel from Plymouth to Treburden off the coast of France on Saturday, July 31 to Sunday, August 1. Oliver took part in the challenge after losing his father, Neil, to cancer last year.

Neil Hancox was the first person to windsurf across the English Channel in the 1980s.

Olivers granddad, uncle, and two family friends, Angus McPhie and Robert Humpreys, were on the support boat which followed him.

The trip was supported by Mayflower Marina in Plymouth.

Oliver, who has six years sailing experience behind him, said: I really enjoyed it and I am proud of myself. There was one scrawl, which is an isolated bit by the river, that lasted for three hours every wave came straight over the top of the boat! If I can find sponsors I would love to go around the globe and Id do it solo!

Oliver and his family expressed thanks to all those who helped raise money and support his sailing challenge.
