Halloween venues will be taking on a spooky vibe this October – and Dartmoor itself somehow becomes more eerie as winter approaches with its darker nights.

From zombies, witches, wizards and pumpkin festivals there’s so much happening this Halloween with something to suit everyone.

It’s also a time when some think humans can communicate with the spiritual world, and on Deborah Finch, a “psychic medium” is visiting Tavistock on her “Modern Approach Tour”.

On Friday, 30 October, 2026, Deborah will be at Tavistock Town Hall from 7pm and tickets cost £10.

Deborah said: “Come and join me for an evening of emotion, upliftment and giggles. I will connect you to evidence from the spirit world as well as guidance and future predictions.”

Also in Tavistock, the Magical Map Halloween Trail is fun for all the family, you “follow the enchanted map, find 15 magical objects, collect your letters and unlock the spell to earn your prize”. It’s organised for “participating witches and wizards” and there’s a Facebook page for the event here to find out more.

In Okehampton, The Museum of Dartmoor Life will be decorated spookily for October’s half term week along with a Halloween trail, dressing up and crafting with a seasonal theme.

A Morwellham Quay, there’s a Halloween & Spooky Mine Train Ride to enjoy this year which is fun for all ages.

Their website explains: “Ride the mine train deep into the hillside, be prepared to meet the knockers for a scare and a chuckle. Trick or Treat at the Shocking Shop Door, have a Nibble at The Ship Inn - and Creep around the Little Creepy Cottage.”

Entrance is £8.95 per person and it’s running daily from Saturday, October 24 until November 1.

Two local farms are putting on pumpkin fests, at Lifton’s Strawberry Fields you can “hop on the barrel train, snap pics with spectacular pumpkin displays, and tuck into delicious autumn treats”. There’s also a magic show, circus show and live music at the location.

Pennywell Farm’s popular Pumpkin Festival is a family friendly event suitable for all in the Buckfastleigh area.

As well as a pumpkin festival, October at Pennywell farm also offers ‘Pumpkin Nights’ – “cosy, festive evenings filled with live music, food, drink, instagrammable moments, and pumpkin picking under the stars”.

Over in Sparkwell, the world is “not how it used to be” on October 23, 24, 30 and 31, this Halloween season. Could you survive a zombie apocalypse, well, Dartmoor Zoo’s unforgettable ‘Night of the Dead - Zombie Survival Challenge’ is a chance to find out (adults only).

At the zoo’s event, you’ll be risking “treacherous terrain, accompanied by zombies at each and every turn” within the grounds of Dartmoor Zoo. You’ll be given some cryptic clues during your journey, but “whether you make it back out alive is down to you and your companions”.

This Halloween fun is not for the fainthearted, but promises to be memorable. Tickets for Night of the Dead - Zombie Survival Challenge’ can be purchased here, if you dare!
