CASTLE Drogo will be opening its doors during half term for the first time this February. On the weekends of February 16 and 17 and 23 and 24, visitors can take advantage of this unique chance to go behind the scenes and see the parts of the Castle that are usually kept hidden from view. There will be guided tours of the castle on each of these days at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. The tour will include a look around the Lutyens designed rooms that are currently used as offices, but were originally used by the Drewe family as bedrooms. Visitors will also be able to see the breathtaking views from the castle roof and learn about the recently completed first stage of the building repair programme including a visit to the newly restored chapel roof. The tour concentrates on the areas that are not usually accessible to the public as many of the castle interiors will still be in their winter closed down state. The tours on 16 and 17 February will also provide a last chance to see the 17th century armorial tapestry in situ before it is removed and sent away for much needed conservation work. As well as this fascinating glimpse behind the scenes at the castle, there will also be plenty of family fun with a Spring Trail around the garden and grounds (£1.50 per child including prize).
