SPORTS enthusiasts in Okehampton now have access to improved gymnastic and trampolining equipment thanks to the collective effort of several organisations in the town.

OCRA and Okehampton College unveiled a range of new equipment in the college gymnasium on Friday. Guests from the fundraisers saw the new trampoline with safety end decks, crash mats, an inflatable tumble track, competition beam, springboards, rhythmic equipment and symmetric bars.

More than £7,500 has been raised by funders for the project. These include Okehampton College, Manor House Hotel, Okehampton Rotary Club, Okehampton Town Council, West Devon Borough Council, Okehampton Lions and Okehampton United Charities.

Stuart Lord, OCRA activity development manager, said: 'It has been great to develop a fantastic team of local gymnastic and trampolining coaches and instructors. Now thanks to the generosity of the funders we have been able to move the clubs on to a new level with this fantastic equipment. We are very lucky in this area to have these wonderful community-orientated groups.'

The equipment has allowed OCRA to improve the sporting quality of young people in the area. Over 150 children in the area are now attending gymnastic and trampolining sessions each week.

One of the new sessions in for 14-18 year olds on Wednesday nights between 8pm and 9pm.
