LAST week saw the first meeting of an action group set up to oppose any wind turbine development on Chilla Moor.

The first action group meeting of the newly formed CAT(Chilla Against Turbines) was held in Halwill Junction Village Hall following a public meeting held two weeks ago.

Feelings are running high against any potential development and 35 residents from the villages that stand to be affected, including Sheepwash, Highhampton, Black Torrington, Chilla, Halwill, Northlew and Beaworthy, volunteered to form an action group committee.

The group's aim is to formulate a strong case for the opposition against the siting of the wind turbines.

They have already produced their own website, http://www.chilla-against-turbines.co.uk">www.chilla-against-turbines.co.uk which is full of information about the proposals and other alternative forms of renewable energy.

The group says that already their spokesman has carried out a live radio interview for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation who had seen the website and were interested in the campaign.

Members also state that many other wind turbine opposition groups have been in contact via the site and it is proving a useful way of sharing information and keeping up to date with all the other campaigns currently underway in Devon.

Currently, no formal plans have been submitted to Torridge District Council but energy compnay Scottish Power have been surveying the area.
