OKEHAMPTON and Okehampton Hamlets’ residents are being asked to join in a Christmas litter pick this Saturday morning (December 1) between 10 and 11am.

The event is being organised by the Okehampton Rivers Improvement Group (ORIG) and Keep Okehampton Tidy.

ORIG has been running for many years and its volunteers meet monthly in Okehampton to tidy the rivers and other parts of the town.

Keep Okehampton Tidy is an initiative that was set up by Mike Davies when he was mayor of Okehampton in 2011 and encourages residents to gather together twice a year to help collect litter.

This Saturday, volunteers young and old are being asked to meet up by the recycling bins in Waitrose car park at 10am. Instructions will then be given out.

Cllr Mike Davies, who is now mayor of West Devon, said: ‘It will be good to get the town ready for Christmas. The roads entering the town often are covered with litter which doesn’t provide a good first impression of our town.’
