CHILDREN from Okehampton Primary School have been participating in a nationwide competition to learn more about renewable energy.

Organised by the British Science Association, The Great Global Adventure competition encourages children to draw an annotated poster of their own all-terrain vehicle that will carry a driver and passengers using renewable energy.

Town councillor Kay Bickley visted the school with her Nissan Leaf electric car, to give pupils the chance to see what a real electric car looks and sounds like. Mrs Bickley has recently been recognised for her environmental work by being given the West Devon Mayor's Green Award.

Adam Daniel, a member of staff at the school, also brought in his electric scooter for the demonstration.

More than 300 children from the school entered the competition. Mrs Bickley came back into the school last Friday to judge them, selecting a winner from each year group.

The seven winners will be sent to the British Science Association for judging. National results will be announced by the end of April.
