In their first game as Tavistock AFC U18s, last years under 16s with three notable additions came away with a worthy win and a good team performance to boot!
The game began with Tavistock being a little tentative and sometimes second to the ball which was compounded by the opposition scoring a soft goal from a free kick.
However at no time did Tavistock heads go down and from the goal onwards Tavistock had the better of the game as a whole.
At the back for Tavistock Phil Wearing, Blatchford and Cribbett kept the attackers well at bay and were ably assisted when required by Hoar and Leeson. This platform allowed attacks to flow with regularity.
One of these saw Ayres beat his man and pass to Hoar who crossed into the area where Robins flicked the ball on to Pridham who fired their first goal in at near post. An excellent move and finish! Despite a number of near misses from Ayres, Doyle and Robins it was 1-1 at half-time.
The second half saw Davidson come off the bench and with a run in behind the defence, a fall to the ground and a deflected shot looping over the keeper, he scored within a minute to make it 1-2.
This was the fillip Tavistock needed and they continued to attack with width in wave after wave allowing Pridham to latch on to a pass from Doyle and place his second and the teams third past the keeper.
Tavistock created more chances from substitute Mayne, Davidson along and Robins. It was Robins, who after receiving the ball wide on the half way line carried it to the area, cut inside and placed the ball past the keeper on the near post to make it 1-4 for a richly deserved Tavistock win.
