ALMOST £1,100 was raised for victims of the July floods during Tavistock Rotary Club?s recent collections. Tony Whitehead, club president, said he was ?overwhelmed? by the response from local people and visitors, who gave so generously in aid of victims of the floods which devastated many parts of the country. He said: ?We are usually rattling our tins for disaster casualties in foreign lands but once people realised that the problem was on our own doorstep, many had relatives that had been flooded, they gave as much as they could spare.? The money raised will be put into Rotary?s national flood disaster fund and distributed to the affected areas on a fair and transparent basis. Rotarians around the country have been working with emergency services by filling sandbags, helping look after people displaced from their homes, collecting and laundering people?s clothes and distributing bottled water.
