THERE was plenty of fun to be had with shovels at Harrowbarrow Pre-School's garden makeover day recently.

'We asked for help with our garden, and were astounded by the response,' said Dawn Russell, chair of the parent-led committee which manages the pre-school group.

'We managed to get all the stuff on site for the main event, and the wonderful team of helpers put it into place, including teenagers from the park who came along to help.'

Karen Bennett, vice-chair added: 'It was a lovely event with a real community feel. Families of all ages were helping together.

'We really made the most of the adult manpower while activities took place for the children.

'As it was such a successful event, the pre-school hopes to run something similar every year, although next time it will not be such back-breaking work and will be more focused on bringing families together in the garden.'
