TWO junior West Devon athletes competed at the Saltash Aquathlon on an extremely hot Saturday last month.
Emily Attfield competed on behalf of Exeter Tri Club and she took part in the junior aquathlon — consisting of a 200m swim (2mins 49secs) and a 2.5k road run (11mins 19secs). With a quick transition time Emily finished in a time of 14.55 and was the first junior girl (aged 11-12). This was a superb result for Emily who was only one second behind the first junior boy, and as she is only 11 will be in the same age group next year.
Pete Jarman competed on behalf of Tavistock Athletic Club and took part in the full aquathlon - a 500m swim (8.24) and a 5.k road run (25.28) with transition time Pete finished in a time of 34 mins 51 secs and was the first male youth (13-15). Pete was really pleased to win as he was only 13 in April.
Despite aching legs on the next day Pete also competed in the second Devon Open Series track and field meeting at Plymouth on behalf of Tavistock Athletic Club, he came second in the javelin, second in the hammer and fifth in the shot in the U15 age group
Both Emily and Pete train regularly with TAC and Tavistock Swimming Club.
