PONIES, owners and visitors gathered at the old playing fields in Princetown earlier this month, for the 23rd Dartmoor Pony Moorland Show.

Judge for the day was Diane Jordan from the Moortown Stud near Chagford.

The largest class of the day was 'geldings of any age', which was won by Keith and Elaine Locke form Jacobstowe with their three year old Okeleat Sirocco.

The barren mare class was won by Andrew and Heidi Belcher from Colan, near Newquay, with their eight year old Hisley Perfume, and in second place was Keith and Elaine Locke's Okeleat Princess. These two ponies went on to be champion and reserve adults and the day ended with Hisley Perfume as supreme champion and Okeleat Princess as reserve champion.

The yearling class was won by Elizabeth Newbolt-Young from Widecombe and Shilstone Rocks Mountain Mist, with Sue Aylesbury-Rodgers from North Bovey in second with Merribridge Jubilee Diamond.

The two and three year olds class was won by Andrew and Heidi Belcher's Hisley Canoodle, and Ken and Daf Edwards from Widecombe came in second with Langworthy Linnet. Hisley Canoodle went on to be youngstock champion with Okeleat Sirocco in reserve.

William Houghton from Bovey Tracey won the ridden pony class, riding Okeleat Mayqueen. He also won the young handlers class with Elisha Weight in second.

The lead reign class was won by Ruby McNamarra, riding Mrs Sue Lewis' Tedburn Allegretto, ahead of Elisha Weight riding Mrs Doidges Willsetton Lavender.

Tedburn Allegretto was awarded the ridden championship with Okeleat Mayqueen in reserve.

Lizzie Houghton from Bovey Tracey won the pony from the Newtake Scheme with her four year old mare Langworthy Swift Ghost, and Elizabeth Newbolt-Young took the novice youngstock with Shilstone Rocks Mountain Mist.

Although entries were slightly down on last year, everybody enjoyed their day at the show.
