MAJOR work to repair the parish church at Meeth has revealed evidence of two medieval graves under floorboards.

Archeologists, employed as a matter of routine when work is carried out on any church, have taken away samples from the site.

The outlines of two medieval graves were found near the main entrance under the pew floors. They have since been covered over again with new flooring. No bones were found.

Work on St Michael and All Angels Church, the culmination of four years of fundraising, will be completed in May.

Twenty tonnes of plaster were removed from the site and the walls were re-plastered with lime mortar, coin stones were sandblasted and all new flooring laid.
