ON a damp afternoon Walkham Valley Cricket Club played the Grasshoppers, Wembury, in a 30-over friendly at Walkhampton Memorial Field.

Batting first and losing a couple of quick wickets, Ralph and Berry made a creditable partnership of 51 off a pitch with nothing moving fast on a wet outfield. Berry departed, run out on 20.

The middle order run rate was helped along by good batting by Nimmo and Kay with quick running between the wickets, making 26 and 22 respectively.

The tail end was made up of contributions of three Whitchurch Ladies' cricket team, due to cancellations and holidays. with Jenny Kay and Gaynor Pollard batting well, both not out bringing to the score to 142 for 7.

Steady progress was made from the start by the Grasshoppers with Lakey and Cove scoring 43 and 33 respectively.

Kay, bowling for Walkham, had an excellent session taking three quick middle order wickets for four runs with Long and Nimmo with a wicket each.

The match was winnable but Grasshoppers responded with a good fightback from Russell 24 and Spence getting the runs required.
