OKEHAMPTON Wildlife Watch Group, which encourages young people to find out more about nature, was one of the local organisations to benefit from the EX20 Lottery. The group has been working with Okehampton Primary School to put back its environmental garden, developing a planting programme and ensuring a high quality pond to give children a feeling of ownership of the project. A similar project at Bridestowe Primary School, supported by Bridestowe Garden Club, was also backed by the EX20 Lottery. The lottery committee meet four times a year to divide up the dividends from the lottery to good causes in the local area. The Okehampton scheme has been given £1,000 while the Bridestowe scheme received £500. A grant of £1,000 was also made to OCRA (Okehampton and Community Recreation Association) to support their outreach work in the villages. The money will go towards buying some replacement sports equipment. OCRA is also looking into the possibility of introducing a lending service of its equipment to enable more community sports activities. The EX20 Lottery and OCRA have also announced they will be working closely together in future to continue to promote the weekly charity lottery. Netball in the town also got a boost with a grant of £100 to purchase new bibs for netball teams. The EX20 Lottery has agents in Bridestowe, Meeth and Hatherleigh and tickets can also be purchased from Okehampton Newsagents and the pet shop in Station Road. You can also contact Cllr Christine Marsh on 01837 52350 to find out about becoming a lottery member or applying for a charitable grant.
