THE Stannary Hash House Harriers celebrated their 1,000th run last month.
Founded in 1981 from the remnants of TVH3, Stannary has grown to become the foremost hashing group in the area.
Hashing in general is best described as drinkers with a running problem and Stannary would certainly fit that description.
The 1,000th run itself was held at Lopwell Dam with a good riverside and wooded trail interrupted at the halfway point by a drinks stop that commanded some fine views of the Tamar Valley.
Previous hashers returned for the occasion including one from Australia together with some founder members looking as youthful as ever.
The previous week had seen the 999 Emergency run with various games, some more swimming and the realisation of a long held ambition from one of the less succesful hares to get the hash to the top of Brat Tor and Widgery Cross. Later a rather competitive skittles tournament was eventually won by one of the younger members.
Stannary Hash were very well represented at the Burrator Horseshoe race. Twenty members took part in the race with many others supporting. The race was dedicated to Richard Orchard, known within Stannary hash as 'Ginger', who died last year following a tragic accident. Ginger coloured armbands were worn by hash members and supporters.
Not content with all this activity SH3 has also ousted it's committee and placed others in charge. One of the longest serving and least respected hashers is now in charge with many other posts being taken up by younger members.
Now based around the Yelverton area Stannary hash meets every Monday evening with the run starting at 7.30pm.
