Carlsberg South Western League

Porthleven 1

Tavistock 2

THE Lambs bounced back from the previous week?s defeat against Callington with this morale boosting victory.

It was the first time they had recorded a win at Gala Parc since 1990 and the first time they had completed the double over them for longer than anyone can recall.

Andy Meeds came back into goal and they were without the services of Jeff Babb and Chris Gott due to injury.

The Lambs took the game to their hosts for the first 15 minutes and Lee Doncaster was unlucky as a Paul Smith knock-on was clipped over both keeper and bar.

It was then the turn of the home side as first Meeds saved from Lee Hodge and blocked a shot from James Miller. The same player was guilty of missing another great chance in front of goal but the Lambs had another opportunity as the half drew to a close when Doncaster just failed to get on the end of a Paul Adcock flick-on.

In the early part of the second half Doncaster set up John Gosling but his shot was blocked to sail just over the bar. Doncaster saw another effort go wide as he turned inside.

Porthleven had a great chance to open the scoring but Nigel Thwaites shot over the bar from close range before the Lambs took the lead on 63 minutes.

Lee Beer, Gosling and Doncaster combined for the latter to see his shot pushed away for a corner by keeper Penhaligan and from James Cole?s kick Darren Babb headed down and home to put the Lambs in the driving seat.

Minutes later they doubled their score as Gosling?s run into the area was stopped, but Smith picked up the loose ball to send in a shot that Penhaligan could only parry and there was Gosling to add the final touch.

The home side got themselves back into the game five minutes later when a quickly taken free kick by Adrian Bleasdale caught the Lambs unawares to set up a tense finish.

The Lambs had to defend and from another free kick Nathan Blamey cleared off the line, but that was the only threat and they ran out worthy winners to keep them at the top of the table.

Team: Andy Meeds, Lee Beer, James Cole, Nathan Blamey (capt), Mark Wall, Darren Babb, John Gosling (Will Westlake 75m), Paul Smith, Paul Adcock, Lee Doncaster (sub Simon Parnell 80m), Wayne Crow. Sub not used: Chris Short.

l It will be another tough one for the Lambs this Saturday when they play host to Holsworthy at Langsford Park with a 3pm kick-off. The P&D side are away to University of Plymouth with a 2.30pm kick-off.
