OKEHAMPTON Golf Club Tuesday August 15 saw the veterans section continuing their very good season by beating Teignmouth 6-0. Saturday saw another high scoring 4 ball better ball. Division One was won by Matt Soby and Steven Hill with 47pts, second Peter and Mike Denning 46pts. It was very close for third place with Alan and Penny Deakin 45pts (back 9) from Dan Potter and Andrew Smallridge also 45pts. Division Two: in first place Dave Grimes and Derek Wildash 45pts, second Gordon Parker and Chris Askew 45pts on the back 9 from Graham and Matt Milford also 42, and fourth was Doug Valentine and Stuart Lewis 41 pts (back 6). The ladies section is still doing well; they played a friendly greensomes at Stover on Monday 14th and won 4 1/2- 2 1/2. Wednesday August 16 was the Coronation Foursomes Finals, held at Sherborne in Dorset. Penny Deakin and Vice Captain Eileen Piper were the representatives of Okehampton, one of the few Devon Clubs that made the finals, and though not in the prizes were well up the leaderboard in the top ten. Wednesday?s competition was a qualifying stableford with Dawn Phillott winning the silver division with 35pts reducing her handicap by point 2. Second was Mary Kier 31 pts and third Lin Atkinson 27. The bronze division was won by Janet Hatch 35 pts reducing her handicap by point 5 so now playing off 32, second Chris Turner 33 pts and third Lorna Rolfe with 32 pts.
