SOME years ago when my son was living in Denmark, wildlife conservationists thought it would be good to re-introduce beavers to a restricted area to see how they acclimatised.

The Danes are very thorough in all that they do ( their limited land space being very important) so a large, watery, woodland area was security fenced, carefully checked for every beaver 'mod con' and the few selected animals were released.

In less than a week the reserve was empty and there were phone calls from the irate owner of a nearby beautifully manicured estate that the beavers had felled half a dozen specimen trees into his ornamental lake!

Good old beavers! If they are going to be wild, they'll do the job properly!
