THERE was a lot of tail wagging when a bumper cheque for Guide Dogs for the Blind were given a cheque at Tavistock Golf Club this week. The tails wagging were by guide dog Quincey, belonging to Nikki Watson of Yelverton, and his canine friend Eric.

The organisation were handed a cheque for £4,000 by representatives of the Golfers Guide Dog Society, which they raised this year. This is in addition to £2,000 handed over earlier in the year that was raised in 2012.

The funds will go towards sponsoring a puppy for training and is the first time the society has been able to do this. The Golfers Guide Dog Society was set up in order to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind. This has been done by organising three golf days each year at selected venues. This year's events were held at Launceston, Dainton, and Trevose and were sponsored by Tavistock Motor Company, Underhill Engineering of Plymouth, Town and Country Lettings of Plymouth and Mother Ivey's Holiday Park, Trevose. Subsidiary sponsors included American Golf, Plymouth Golf Centre, Charles Steevenson Wines of Tavistock and Tolleys of Tavistock.

Next year's events will be held at Dainton, Tavistock and Trevose. New members are always welcome and anyone wishing to join contact the membership secretary, John White, by emailing [email protected]">[email protected]
