MORE than £3,300 was raised at the first of two annual charity golf days at the Ashbury Golf Course near Okehampton recently. Twenty-five teams of four entered, consisting of local firms and businesses, other Rotary clubs and friends who all had an enjoyable day. All 18 holes were sponsored and many valuable prizes donated. The winning team was Ye Old Timers: Dave Cole, Ray Ford, Ray Brearly and Ted Brown, who scored 92 points and won golf bags and shoes. The best front nine score was won by Holsworthy Rotary Club and the best back nine was won by the Bratton Bashers. The Rotary Club expressed thanks to Simon and Joan Essex for the generous use of their golf course and the provision of meals plus all their sponsors and everyone who helped. July 19 will be the next charity golf day. The entrance fee is £90 for a team of four which will include a bacon bap and coffee on arrival, golf buggies and a meal.
