TWENTY teams teed off for disadvantaged children in an annual charity golf day.

CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids), held the golf day at Trethorne Golf Club near Launceston, to raise money to fund respite breaks for children.

The event was sponsored by the Firewatch Group and 20 teams competed, with the Parman Group being crowned the winning team.

The day raised £6,122 and will go a long way towards funding free breaks for children at the CHICKS centres in Brentor and Par, in Cornwall.

CHICKS fundraiser Mick Ryan said: 'Supporting CHICKS in our various events is very rewarding as well as a lot of fun. I would like to say a personal thank you to everyone who entered teams and to the Firewatch Group for sponsoring the event.

'Special thanks go to Carol Reip and all at Trethorne Golf Club for hosting such a wonderful day, and we look forward to next year's event.'

CHICKS receives no government funding and relies solely on donations to provide free respite breaks for the increasing number of disadvantaged children from across the UK, including hundreds from all areas of the South West.

The children CHICKS help include those in care or suffering sever poverty, child carers and victims of abuse. Events like the annual golf day play a huge part in funding the work that CHICKS carries out.
