WITH overnight rain clearing the last of the frost from the greens at Okehampton Golf Club, but with a strong wind blowing a steady rain across the course, 73 pairs battled for a prize in the Farewell Fourball, an interesting combination of individual, better ball and greensomes.

In difficult conditions the scoring was very good, the winning score, 49 points, achieved by John Haslam and his partner Marcus White. In second place with 48 points were John Leonard and Jim Butcher, beating Dave Bickle and Mark Curtis on the back nine.

After the golf more than 120 members were present in the clubhouse for the prizegiving and presentation of the club trophies for the past year.

Club captain Frank Ward, assisted by president Janie Mortimer and ladies' captain Maureen Willcocks, presented the magnificent display of cups and shields to the winners.

The captain then made a presentation on behalf of the club to Charles Hicks, leaving the club after six years as secretary. Charles, who is leaving to take up a position at Launceston Golf Club, thanked members and wished the club success in the future.

Members then enjoyed an excellent buffet prepared by the club caterers and danced the night away to the Hard Place Band.
