NORTH Tawton's Taw Valley Creamery won four medals for the excellence of its cheese at the Devon County Show. The creamery, owned by the UK's largest cheese manufacturer, the Cheese Company, and part of Milk Link, is responsible for processing around 35% of the total amount of milk produced in Devon — the UK's largest milk producing county. Taw Valley Creamery won two gold medals for its Red Leicester and Mild Cheddar, silver for its Mild Cheddar and bronze for its Double Gloucester. Brian Kerr, general site manager of Taw Valley Creamery, said: 'The Devon County Show is one of the most highly regarded agricultural shows so it is extremely gratifying to have won gold. 'The prizes celebrate excellence in cheese-making, so it is fantastic to be reserve winner by overall show points. 'All of our staff in North Tawton have been working diligently and with great skill to produce these premium, award-winning cheeses, so I would like to offer them my thanks.' The Cheese Company is the UK's largest cheese manufacturer, producing more than 20 varieties of cheddars, Blue Stiltons and British regional cheeses for the retail, food service and ingredients sectors. It employs more than a thousand staff across four cheese and dairy processing facilities and its consumer packing facility at Oswestry, Shropshire.
