THREE Tavistock ATC cadets received their Duke of Edinburgh Ofsted Award from Devon Deputy Lord Lt Sir John Evans at County Hall in Exeter. Commanding Officer Flt Lt Phil Newcombe said he was very proud of the three cadets, Kate Boyce, Tom Slack and Vicki Lister, who were among 97 other young adults in Devon who achieved the award. They gained their award by achieving solo flying in gliding scholarships, aviation studies and marksmanship as skills, physical achievement in sport activities, community support in service and an expedition in the Picos mountains in Spain organised by the Tavistock Duke of Edinburgh award group. The squadron is looking for new recruits aged 13 or above from the locality to join — activities include academic subjects leading to BTEC awards equivalent to six GCSEs, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, adventure training activities, marksmanship in all levels of shooting skills, flying and gliding and sports. The cadets meet at Crelake Cadet Centre off Pixon Lane on Tuesdays from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Contact 01822 612927 for further information.
