Now in its fifth year, the festival brings an eclectic mix of film screenings, workshops and discussions with filmmakers and actors and a range of other quirky events.
The week-long festival launched on Monday with a red carpet extravaganza at the Globe Inn. The Globe Choir sang songs from the musical Les Misérables ahead of a screening of the 2012 film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit production starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway.
Highlights of the week so far included a question and answer session with Oscar and BAFTA winning film director Kevin Macdonald, the world’s smallest solar-powered cinema Sol Cinema coming to town and lunch with Oscar-winning conceptual designer for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films Alan Lee.
Highlights still to come include lunch with Dartmoor based cameraman Chris Vile, a Friday night singalong of Grease and Chagford square being transformed into an Indian paradise with curry stalls, special menus in the cafes and chai tea. In the evening there will be a wondrous mechanical elephant parading around the square followed by a Bhangra flash mob dance.
