THE Friends of Tavistock Library, in conjunction with the library staff, wish to thank all who contributed to their second Christmas event on the evening of Friday December 12.
Especial thanks go to the members of St Peter's Junior School choir for their gleeful singing of modern carols, to Rebecca Wallace from Kelly College who regaled us with a beautiful account of Pachelbel's Canon in D and to the readers of prose and poetry.
As well as being a most enjoyable evening the event raised a sum of just over £100 which will be used to support the library's Children's Book Festival at the beginning of March 2004.
These monies, together with those we raise at the Friday morning coffee mornings in the library, will go towards the expenses of authors and illustrators who will run workshops for local children during the festival.
The purpose of the Friends of Tavistock Library is to support the outreach of library work and new members will be most welcome.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday January 20 at 2.30 pm in the library. Minutes of our meetings are available for general inspection. Enquiries may be made through the library or directly to any of us.
