CALLING all runners! The Oke Croak run gets underway next month, offering one of the most scenic runs in Devon.

The Oke Croak is a challenging run of around ten miles among beautiful Dartmoor scenery, starting and finishing in Okehampton. Proceeds from the run will go to the Dartmoor Rescue Group.

The course follows footpaths onto the moor from Simmons Park, then runners chose their own route to Oke Tor and Yes Tor ? the second highest point in Devon ? before heading back down to Okehampton.

The terrain can be rough and boggy and will require navigational skills. Those taking part should be prepared for the extreme weather conditions which can occur on Dartmoor and should carry a map, compass and suitable waterproof clothing.

Organisers are keen to attract more entries for the event, those taking part do not have to be fast runners, just getting around the course will be an achievement of which to be proud. The only requirement is to be able to use a map and compass in case of bad weather.

The run begins from Simmons Park, Okehampton, at noon on Sunday, June 1. All finishers will receive a memento with prizes for the first male and female, and first veteran (over-50) male and female.

The run is being supported by Dartmoor Rescue Group who will be providing checkpoints, marshalling and first aid.
