BRING the family and join in the fun for the Tavistock Town Relays next Thursday Evening in the Tavistock Meadows. Starting with a 1.1 mile Fun Run for children (and adults) of all ages at 6.30pm, this will be followed by the two main relay races. First off are the juniors at approximately 6.45pm to run their four laps of the course which begins in The Meadows, along the riverbank to West Bridge, following the far bank back to Abbey Bridge before returning to the finish next to the race headquarters at Meadowlands Pool. With prizes in three age groups for both boys and girls, keen competition from local clubs and schools is anticipated. Defending champions and race record holders Tavistock AC are aiming for a hat-trick of victories in the Senior Relay after taking the title in both 2004 and 2005. Other local clubs are preparing for an assault on their crown and the race record which they achieved in 2005. Amongst the favourites will be Tamar Trotters of Saltash, Plymouth Harriers, Exmouth Harriers, Erme Valley Harriers and South West Road Runners. The Veterans category also promises another exciting tussle after Tavistock pipped South West Road Runners by only 4 seconds last year. In the ladies categories a strong showing is anticipated from East Cornwall Harriers . There is still time to enter the non-running Sports Clubs or Local Business categories which are always very open and a great way to do something a bit different with your work colleagues or team-mates. Entry forms for the Races, which are again sponsored by local business Abbey Garden Machinery, can be downloaded from the Tavistock Athletic Club website at http://www.tavistockathletics.com">www.tavistockathletics.com or be collected from the The Meadowlands Pool who will once again open their doors as Race HQ on the day.
