A HUGE Hallowe?en children?s fancy dress party to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the granting of Tavistock?s market charter is being held next month ? and organisers want children to start preparing for it now! The party, on Sunday October 30, will be held in Tavistock Pannier Market and is being organised by trader Caroline Raw and deputy market reeve Mike Souttar. Tickets for the big event will be free ? but to obtain one, Caroline and Mike want children to submit an A4-sized colour poster of their own design, depicting 900 years of market trading. Caroline said: ?Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis ? we thought this might be the fairest way of organising them.? Caroline will be contacting headteachers of schools during the next week to tell them about the big party ? the market can cater for up to 150 children and organisers hope it will be every bit as successful as the senior citizens? tea dance, held in July. Caroline said: ?We?ve got a disco organised, other entertainment, we?ll have face painting, possibly a clown, craft tables ? lots of activities and a party tea.? The party will be open to children aged between six and eleven years old. Parents are being encouraged to stay for the party ? refreshments will be provided. The party, between 3pm and 5pm, is being provided thanks to generosity from the National Market Traders Federation, with sponsorship from local businesses. Caroline and Mike urged children to start planning their posters ? and their fancy dress outfits ? now. Posters, including the child?s name, age, primary school attended, parent or guardian contact number and a signature, should be sent or handed into Tavistock Pannier Market. The closing date is Thursday October 20. Tickets will be distributed via the schools.
