ANIMAL lovers are being asked to take up a challenge this September to help thousands of animals that need care, by taking part in Margaret Green Animal Rescue's first ever triathlon.
The three part challenge, named 'Tri 4 Rescue', will take place on Sunday, September 1 and starts with a 4.5-mile walk from Wingletang Rescue and Re-homing Centre, near Tavistock, followed by a 6-mile horse ride and a 13.5-mile cycle ride. Challengers are invited to sign up for just one leg, two, or all three.
'In the last six months a lot of our animals have come in with obscure ailments which have really hit us hard with veterinary bills,' said Niki Ging, who manages Wingletang with her husband Alan.
'From five poorly poodles, to stray dog Poppy who came in dehydrated and starving, to Bella, with her heart murmur.
'We hope to raise as much money as possible from this event to help animals like these, who need extra care. Every penny will go towards animal welfare.'
