THE owners of a West Devon garden will be opening their gates to the public this Sunday for the very first time to raise money for charity as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

Justin and Jude Roberts own Damerel House in Sydenham Damerel, and when they bought the property the garden was derelict and neglected. Since then, they have slowly been bringing it back to life.

The large garden is set around a Georgian house with a walled herbaceous garden, a croquet lawn and a productive vegetable garden.

To complement the Georgian setting of the garden, the teas on offer to visitors will include some of the Georgian's favourite teatime treats such as Bath buns and the teas will be served in Georgian costume by members of the Tavonians Theatre Company.

The garden will be open on Sunday June 5 from 11am to 6pm. Entrance is £4, children free. There is plenty of parking available and dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads. There will also be plants on sale.

The money raised through the National Garden Scheme supports caring charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie.
