STUDENTS, parents and staff at Mount House School learned about gardening, local history and social enterprise at a talk 'The Walled Gardens of Maristow — Restoring the Future', hosted by the school as part of its ongoing Oracle lecture series recently.
The Oracle lecture was well attended by the prep and pre-prep school's former and current parents, children and staff, who enjoyed an engaging talk by former Mount House mother-turned- gardener and social enterprise entrepreneur Jenny Tunley Price.
Much was learned about historical and current gardening techniques, as well as important local history and current community benefits of Maristow based social enterprise initiatives.
The children were even given the chance to demonstrate how fruit trees were grown against the warm brick walls of the gardens of Victorian times.
Patrick Savage, Mount House headmaster, said: 'This was an excellent way to learn about our environment and sustainable fruit and vegetable production past and present.
'These learnings also link into our DT curriculum focus on sustainability which underpins our school farm programme.'
