Western League

Callington Town 1

Plymouth Parkway 4

WESTERN League striker Mike Gammon, who has also signed for Parkway, was the main difference between the two sides as he helped himself to a hat-trick of goals at Ginsters Marshfield Parc on Saturday.

It was clear his normal playing theatre is higher than the Carlsberg League and he gave the visitors the lead inside four minutes.

Callington's defence was caught cold on the left and when the initial cross from Wade Price was partially saved by Andy Brenton, the ball bounced to the feet of Gammon who made no mistake from ten yards.

Callington began to put on pressure. Lance Bailey fired just wide on 13 minutes but two minutes later sent a 25-yard shot past Parkway keeper Chris Blackham to equalise.

Stefan White headed just wide from a free kick on 25 minutes as Town enjoyed the better of the play but, as the half-time whistle approached, the visitors stepped up a gear.

Brenton pulled off a series of fine saves from Gammon, Wade Price and Charlie Pond but could not do anything about the second Parkway goal six minutes from the break. A flowing move involving half a dozen players finished with Gammon grabbing his second.

Chris Gerry could have snatched an equaliser for the home side two minutes before the break but shot just wide, and was foiled again within a minute of the restart, this time by the hand of Blackham after Bailey had set up the chance.

Callington again forced the pace but their push for the equaliser left gaps at the back and, with six minutes left, Parkway counter-attacked and Gammon was on hand to grab his hat-trick.

Parkway grabbed a flattering fourth goal three minutes into injury time through Tom Lavis to seal the points and left Callington ruing their own missed chances as they continue to sit at the bottom of the league with one point from four games.

l Callington entertain Newquay at Ginsters Marshfield Parc on Saturday, 3pm.
