OVER the next few months Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS) will be hosting a number of fundraising events throughout the area in order to continue its work helping local people.

Events start on Saturday June 30 at Tavistock Pannier Market with the annual Charity Bonanza. This year sees 16 local charities taking part, selling a wide variety of goods to raise funds for their causes as well as giving out valuable information about the charities.

The event runs from 9am to 4.30pm and admission will be free.

Throughout July and August at a number of sites around the town, TASS volunteers will be selling raffle tickets for the grand summer draw, acknowledged throughout the area as the raffle with one of the best list of prizes

Already the list is boasting a day out with wild birds and visits to top garden attractions, showing that TASS has the support of some of the major tourist attractions in the area.

On Monday July 30, there will be a charity quiz evening at the Leaping Salmon in Horrabridge, which promises to be a fun night out, an opportunity to work the brain cells as well as donating some much needed funds to TASS. The quiz will cost £2 per person and teams of up to six can enter.

TASS continues to engage with older people in socially active ways, and to support those with mobility problems. This year has seen a big increase in trips out, the use of the mobility scooters under the shopmobility scheme and activities such as yoga, badminton, art and whist.

As the number of active older people increases, and the financial situation for many gets worse, TASS will continue to support these groups in as many innovative ways as possible.

The charity is able to do this due to the support given by the people of Tavistock and the surrounding villages.
