A FASCINATING programme of events for all the family to enjoy has been organised in Tavistock this month, in conjunction with the national Family Learning Week. The Local and Family History Week starts on Monday October 17, at the town library when adults and youngsters can learn about geneology on-line, during drop-in sessions between 10am and 3pm. Medieval games and pastimes for children, run by Martin Collinge, will be held in the morning and afternoon on Monday and on Thursday October 20. The focus is on writing on Tuesday October 18, when Tony Fennell holds a ?hands-on calligraphy? session for children. On the same day, there will be a tour of historical sites around Tavistock, led by local historian Alex Mettler, which leaves Bedford Square at 2pm. Calligraphy sessions with Tony Fennell will be held once more on Wednesday October 19 and during the afternoon there will be a talk by Tavistock resident Graham Kirkpatrick, entitled ?Marketing a Market Town ? an Attempt?. Free tickets are available for the talk, which starts at 2pm. On Thursday afternoon adults can learn more about Medieval games and pastimes between 2.30pm and 4pm ? free tickets are available from the library. On Friday October 21, there are selected readings from a community anthology entitled ?Tavistock?s Medieval Inheritance, which starts at 7.30pm ? free tickets can be obtained from the library. And to round the week off, there?s a chance to design your family tree, with a workshop for children between 10am and 11am and a drop-in session on genealogy between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
