WHEN only four of our five bags of green garden waste recycling were emptied today (Saturday, April 30) I was puzzled, especially as many others on our road had the same happen.
On checking the West Devon Council website, I found that they appear to have introduced a new restriction for the 'summer months' (they don't state what constitutes the summer months), whereby they 'guarantee to collect at least four bags — this will increase in winter'.
Given that West Devon sell the collected material on for use on local farms as a soil conditioner, it must be in the council's interest to collect as much as possible during the summer. I'm no mad keen gardener, but it's clear the summer months produce more garden waste than the winter!
The council clearly publicised the changes to what could be taken to recycling centres when they changed at the start of April, so why has there been no similar publicity about this apparent change?
I am clearly not alone in failing to know about its introduction and probably also not alone in the frustration at ever changing requirements!
