TAVISTOCK Swimming Club had a good start at the friendly gala for 15 and under swimmers at Okehampton on Saturday. They took first place with 187 points from Okehampton in second place with 174 points and Crediton with 121 points. Tavistock displayed great strength in the relay events, winning ten relays over the age groups. The strength of the squad was also evident in the individual events with Tavistock taking 18 first places over the 57 events. Individual first places went to Joshua Stephens (3), Michael Best, boys? captain (2), Laura Aspen (2), Kirsty Best (2), Sam Campbell (2), Felix Davies (2) Alice Warnet (1), Catriona Smith (1), Tom Waddington (1), Laura Radgick (1). Kirsty Smith was named as swimmer of the gala for swimming up in the age groups. Representing Tavistock for the first time was Matthew Edwards. Other squad members: Amy Warnett (girls? captain), Tom Crocker, Rebecca Tansey, Jake Chinn, William Carter, Ella Waddington, Sam Harmsworth, Jake Broome, Sam Broome, Samantha Jarman, Danielle Thackham, Joshua Thackham, Rebecca Windemer, Katie Stephens, Charlotte Mellor. The final weekend of the Devon County Championships and Age Groups saw Tavistock take a further medal with James Lake swimming brilliantly in the 17/0ver 50m butterfly championship to take bronze. He just missed out on the bronze in the 17/over 50 freestyle by 2./100th of a second but qualified for the championship final in which he took fifth place medal. Laura Radgick and Chris Ralph both swam personal bests in the 50m freestyle and 200m freestyle respectively. Tavistock finished the Devon County Championships and Age Groups with a total of two silver and five bronze medals and numerous personal best swims.
