The hall committee has been successful in securing funding from the Community is Key Fund to offer training in a variety of areas. The funding is awarded by the Community Council of Devon from the European Social Fund.
Two of the courses are aimed at parents, carers and family of young children, and are designed around the literacy and numeracy hour.
These courses will look at how best to help children with aspects such as phonics, grammar, punctuation and mental calculations.
The instruction on the course will be supplied by the Adult Learning Department at Okehampton College.
These courses are free and will be
offered to fit around school hours with a creche available for parents who need childcare. The courses are only being run until the end of August, so anyone who is interested will need to respond quickly.
Courses are also being run in Lewdown for those who are unemployed and looking to get back into work, have a disability or are a lone parent. There are still a few places available for people who do not fit into these categories, the courses are once again free.
The four courses are in first aid in childcare, food hygiene, health and safety and a beginners introduction to computers, internet and e-mail.
To find out more about the courses please ring Roy Stacey on 01566 783267 or Christine Munkenbeck on 01837 53800.
