THE Okehampton and District Table Tennis League Division One match between Okehampton A and Tavistock A resulted in an 8-2 win for Tavistock who won 10-0 in the first half. Frank Cockburn was the star of the show for Okehampton A. After losing the first two legs against Peter Hicks he stepped up a gear taking the next three 11-8,11-8,11-8 but the best was to come. He became the first player to defeat Peter Nicholson this season with his attacking play, winning in four legs. He could not repeat the performance in his last singles against Fred Phillips who completes a fine maximum in straight sets. Okehampton B were at home to Bridestowe for whom John Down completed a fine maximum. He is the only one with a 100% record in Division One. Colin Nolan did well to take him to a fifth leg decider. Colin won his other two singles against Francis Griffiths and Phill Down. Bridestowe were too strong winning the match 6-4 completing the double. Division Two Okehampton College completed the double over Lewdown with a convincing 9-1 win, Andy Herod-Taylor and Jack Southcott won all their singles and the doubles. Chris Searle lost the only singles losing to Martin Rose in 5 legs 13-11,4-11,11-8,8-11,8-11, to give Lewdown a point. In the second Division Two match Moretonhampstead A beat club rivals Moretonhampstead B 10-0 for the second time this season although the score was one sided it was a hard fought match with 4 games going to a 4th leg decider. Ian Matthews went all the way, firstly against Peter Denman 8-11,11-8,9-11,11-13 and then David Shilston 11-8,8-11,11-13,8-11 to secure a fine maximum.
