FOUR Okehampton women are limbering up to take on a long charity walk to raise funds for a children's hospital.
Donna Wills, Sally Wilson, Kay Grundon and Wendy Whitby will walk from Newton Abbot to Bristol, a distance of some 92 miles, to raise cash for Bristol Children's Hospital.
Leaving on June 4, they will be joined the following day by five cyclists, Debbie and Kevin Wills, Mandy Tree, Neil Puddicombe and Zoe Kopinski from Newton Abbot.
The athletic fundraisers hope to arrive in Bristol on June 6.
Donna said: 'This event is in aid of Debbie and Kevin's daughter, Emilia, who had a congenital heart defect known as transposition of the great arteries (TGA) and at the age of three weeks had life-saving heart surgery at Bristol Children's Hospital in 2008.
'We want to raise as much as possible for the "Wallace and Grommit Grand Appeal" — we have asked that any money we raise be split between ward 32 — cardiac ward — and the paediatric intensive care unit.'
Donna also paid tribute to DRW Transport of Okehampton, which has sponsored the accommodation during the walk.
