THE first competition of the season for Tavistock Swimming Club took place at Central Park on Saturday with the City of Plymouth Championships.

The first day saw Tavistock achieve a total of five silver medals, three bronze medals and 24 personal bests.

Ross Williams knocked 39 seconds off his previous time in the 12 years 200m butterfly to take a well deserved silver. The 200m butterfly was also a successful event for William Crocker who took silver in the 13/14 years event.

Tavistock got close to gold with Chris Ralph missing first place by 2/100th of a second in the 100m breaststroke and Kirsty Best also missing gold by 1/10th of a second in the 200m breaststroke.

Rachael Kelly claimed Tavistock's third silver in a personal best in the 15 years 100m breaststroke. In the 14 years age group, the 100m breaststroke bronze went to Michael Best with a six-second personal best, with Amy Warnett taking bronze in the 200m breaststroke and Tavistock's third bronze going to Chris Ralph in the 15 years 200m freestyle.

Caroline Tuck had an excellent swim in the 12/under 100m butterfly, taking nine seconds off her time, as did Ryan Greep in the 13/under 100m butterfly, swimming a personal best of 11 seconds. Natalie Greep was just nudged out of the bronze in the 9/under 50m backstoke and Laura Radgick swam a personal best time in the 9/under 50m backstroke. The 50m freestyle event gave Martyn Greep an impressive eight seconds personal best time. The 50m Freestyle also gave Philip Webb a two-second personal best with Philip also taking six seconds off his 100m individual medley time.

Both Joshua Stephens and Ross Williams swam well in the 200m freestyle with Joshua swimming a 22 second pb and Ross an eight second pb.
