Devon and Exeter senior three

South Zeal Utd 6

Pinhoe 1

AFTER five weeks without a game Zeal produced a great performance and gained a valuable three points at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Zeal went a goal up after 15 minutes when Redd Cann and Jamie Atherton combined to put Harley Cann clear, who beat two players before slotting the ball home.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 to Zeal when Garry Smith hit a great ball through to Harley who cut in from the right, his half hit shot beating the Pinhoe keeper at the far post.

The visitors, if sluggish at the back, were very capable up front and Zeal's back three of Lee Gilbert, Garry Smith and Tim Sanderson had to work overtime to keep their chances down; but after 20 minutes Pinhoe reduced the deficit when a good move left one of their strikers free on goal and he gave Sean Sendacott no chance in the Zeal goal.

Zeal's two wing backs Dan Wakeham and Darren Gilbert both played their part in the next two goals as first Jamie Atherton was put through and rounded the vistors' keeper for a well taken goal and just before half time Harley Cann completed his hat-trick when Scott Hooper was brought down in the area and Harley converted from the spot.

In the second half Zeal tired and only some great saves by Sendacott and great blocks from Lee Gilbert kept Pinhoe out; however, Zeal were always dangerous on the break and Harley Cann completed his fourth with another penalty after Nick Pollard was fouled by the Pinhoe keeper; Jamie Atherton made the score 6-1 with his second goal when put through by Roger White.

• Next week South Zeal are away to Colyton, kick-off 2-15 pm.
