A FINE afternoon brought out the crowds for Meavy Flower Society?s annual show in the parish hall on Saturday.
More than a hundred people enjoyed the exhibits, light refreshments and the fun of a raffle.
The usual high standard was maintained, despite several days of wind and rain that had damaged many garden plants; dahlias, hydrangeas and fuchsias being well represented. Indoor plants were also much in evidence, particularly streptocarpus.
Salad and other vegetables made a fine display, with keen competition between a father and daughter producing some magnificent onions.
The first use of a computer, to analyse the votes of visitors for selecting winning entries, was successful in preparing the results quickly and relieved committee members of a severe chore, thanks to the assistance of Tim Lambie.
Guest of honour was Mrs Clare Gibbs, widow of a founder member of the society well remembered for his fuchsias, who presented the trophies to the winners.
